Sonya Yu is a business coach, creative director, startup advisor and philanthropist dedicated to cultivating local creative communities and driving positive social impact.
Through her work as a business coach, Sonya works with a diverse clientele, from CEOs to incarcerated individuals, to advance self development and business skills through self inquiry techniques. With substantial operating, marketing, and management experience, Sonya advises on the psychology of leadership, across multiple industries and professional levels. Sonya has a deep background as a business and marketing strategist for over 12 years. Her mix of experience as an entrepreneur, corporate executive, and investor has equipped her with a unique ability to troubleshoot problems from multiple angles and to advise with an integrated context. As a community organizer, Sonya has led empathy circles for social justice causes by facilitating difficult conversations through her communication and collaboration skills.

In addition to her professional work, Sonya serves on multiple nonprofit and business boards and committees, focused in the communities she’s passionate about, including SFMOMA, SFFilm, Art&, Re:store Justice, Yumi, Active Cultures, and more. In 2017 and 2018, she co-chaired the SFFilm Awards Gala, which celebrates the craft of cinema and champions local film educational programs and filmmakers. Also in 2018, she co-chaired the SFMOMA Modern Ball, which supports educational programs and exhibitions in San Francisco.
Born in Beijing, China, Sonya currently works and resides in San Francisco and Los Angeles.
